The Detroit Lions lost their ninth game of the season, and by now, there’s a pretty good chance you’re numb to it. For the past few weeks, the story has been the same: a defense that looks formidable, but an offense that is completely anemic and incapable of making the necessary plays in the fourth quarter.
Of course, this one probably hurt a little more for the optimistic tight. Had Detroit won, their playoffs hopes would still be (barely) alive, but instead, the Lions are officially out of the postseason for the second straight season.
Losing to a 4-9 team like the Buffalo Bills should never feel good, and while some may celebrate the temporary rise in the draft order, this game can’t be a good sign for the future of the franchise.
So today’s Question of the Day is:
Do you feel better, worse or the same after the Lions’ loss to the Bills?
My answer: A little worse.
It’s not that I felt better about the Lions before the game than I did after the game. I literally predicted this to happen.

Instead, I feel a little worse, because I can’t live in the fantasy world in which the Lions could make the playoffs. No, I didn’t think the Lions had any realistic chance of making the postseason, but it added a little fun. It was like betting a dollar on a hockey game. You know you aren’t going to get rich off it, but it adds a tiny bit of stakes.
I enjoy figuring out all of the weird ways Detroit could’ve snuck their way into the playoffs, and I don’t get any of that same pleasure doing it with draft position. Rooting against the Lions is just something I’m not willing to do, even if it’s in the team’s best long-term interest.
So instead, we’re left with two games where I have to watch this horrible offense struggle to come up with a gameplan with no stakes for us as fans. This sucks.
