Another week, another Detroit Lions loss. After climbing their way to 3-3, the Lions have now lost five of their last six, and the frustration is mounting in Detroit. Veteran defensive tackle is literally sick of this shit. The boos are growing louder in Ford Field. And fans are starting to get restless with the current coaching staff.
Detroit put up a valiant effort against the Los Angeles Rams, but Lions fans thought they were done with the days of almosts and could-have-beens.
The Lions’ 2018 season has four games left, but the Lions’ 2018 is also over. That isn’t to say there weren’t positive things to take from this game, but it’s certainly getting harder to see the sun through the clouds.
So today’s Question of the Day is:
Do you feel better, worse or the same about the Lions after their 16-30 loss to the Rams?
My answer: Despite my gloomy intro, I feel the same about the team as I did last week.
Let me start out with the positives. The Lions defense is finally showing the improvement we were all hoping to see in the second half of the season. Despite poor personnel, Detroit has stayed competitive against some solid offenses three weeks in a row. The Lions held this explosive Rams offense to just 16 points through 3.5 quarters, and the only reason they ended up giving 30 points is because Los Angeles was given a short field twice in the final five minutes.
But even though the defense has been keeping them in games against good opponents, the play of the offense continues to be downright depressing. Whether it’s back-breaking mistakes from Matthew Stafford, conservative play-calling from Jim Bob Cooter, or just a perfect storm of injuries and trades that have left the weaponry unimpressive, it’s just painful to watch this team still trying to find an offensive identity 3 months into the season.
But this is the team now. Hopefully it won’t be the team next year.
How do you feel after Sunday’s loss to the Rams?
