In just over a week, the NFL Combine will be upon us. Some of the biggest future stars in the NFL will be down to their skivvies, being judged for every single inch of their body and every single step that they take. The event must seem silly from the outside looking in—and even to some fans of football—but it is undeniably a crucial part of the NFL scouting process.
For NFL scouts and personnel directors, it will be their job to get as much information from as many prospects as possible. Preparation is key to the NFL draft and the more information at your disposal means the more prepare you’ll be.
But for us lay people, we don’t have the resources nor the time to focus our attention on everything. We need to prioritize. So today’s Question of the Day is:
Which position group will you be focusing on during next week’s NFL Combine?
My answer: Running backs and edge rushers. While I don’t think running back is necessarily the biggest need for the Lions, it is a need and it is (supposedly) one of the deepest positions in this year’s draft. I will be looking closely at some of the prospects that experts are expecting to go on the second and third days. Guy like Kerryon Johnson, Rashaad Penny, and Ronald Jones.
Edge rushers are pretty self explanatory. With Ezekiel Ansah’s future still up in the air, the Lions essentially have no starting edge rushers currently on the roster. They’re unlikely to pick up a starter through free agency, so it’s quite likely they’ll be taking one early. I’ll be looking at some of the top prospects next week to see which impresses me the most.
Your turn.
