With Super Bowl LII in the books, the focus has immediately turned to next year for 31 teams hoping to rectify their 2017 failures. But it’s not just the teams shifting attention to next year, analysts and bookies are also doing their best to figure out which team will be hoisting that Lombardi Trophy next year.

Take, for example, ESPN, who already has power rankings out, and for some reason, feel the need to make Eagles fans upset on literally the happiest day of their lives:

But what is the general consensus of the Detroit Lions? Based on current Vegas odds for Super Bowl LIII, not so good.

Three different booking sites have odds for the 2019 Super Bowl, and each of them have the Lions with extremely long odds to win the championship. Here’s a breakdown:

Oddssharks:

Westgate Las Vegas Superbook:

  • Lions’ odds: 50/1
  • Odds rank: t-21st
  • Teams with worse odds: Cardinals, Giants, Washington, Dolphins, Bears, Jets, Bills, Browns, Bengals

BetDSI Sportsbook:

  • Lions’ odds: 41/1
  • Odds rank: t-21st
  • Teams with worse odds: Titans, Ravens, Cardinals, Giants, Washington, Dolphins, Bills, Bengals, Bears, Jets, Browns

So all three are pretty much in agreement. The Lions are right around 21st in the league right now, but tied with several other teams. Below them is their usual cast of eight-to-ten teams.

Obviously this lines up pretty close to where the Lions finished in 2017. Their 9-7 record—just barely not good enough for a playoff spot—puts them at 20th in draft position. And with a first-time head coach leading the team in 2018, there’s understandably some doubt about Detroit. But if the stars align, who knows?
