Chat Sports 2018 NFL Mock draft: Detroit Lions select Harold Landry

If the board were to fall this way, the Lions would be doing backflips.

You all aren’t the only ones that get to have fun and participate in mock drafts. Over the weekend, I represented the Detroit Lions in Chat Sports’ “Journalist-Led Mock Draft” which was live-streamed on Facebook Live.

It was a fun mock draft to take part in, and the way the board fell was quite kind to the Lions. Here’s a look at what I was looking at (yes, there are some wacky picks here):

  1. Cleveland Browns - Sam Darnold, QB, USC
  2. New York Giants - Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
  3. New York Jets - Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
  4. Cleveland Browns - Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
  5. Denver Broncos - Tremaine Edmunds, LB, VT
  6. Indianapolis Colts - Bradley Chubb, DE, NCST
  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Quenton Nelson, OG, ND
  8. Chicago Bears - Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
  9. San Francisco 49ers - Derwin James, DB, FSU
  10. Oakland Raiders - Denzel Ward, CB, OSU
  11. Miami Dolphins - Roquan Smith, LB, UGA
  12. Buffalo Bills - Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming
  13. Washington - Da’Ron Payne, DT, Alabama
  14. Green Bay Packers - Marcus Davenport, EDGE, UTSA
  15. Arizona Cardinals - Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond
  16. Baltimore Ravens - Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
  17. Los Angeles Chargers - Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
  18. Seattle Seahawks - Arden Key, EDGE, LSU
  19. Dallas Cowboys - D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland

While some of my favorite draft prospects (Davenport, Nelson) were off the board by the time the Lions were on the clock, I was left with far more favorable options than I expected. There’s no doubt Detroit would love the board to fall this way, thanks to FIVE quarterbacks being taken in the first 17 picks.

So I was left with way too many options to wrap my head around. Unless the Lions are absolutely sold on one of the prospects on the board, they would absolutely trade down in this scenario.

However, that was not feasible in our mock draft, so I had to choose. Vita Vea? Harold Landry? Maurice Hurst? Taven Bryan? Will Hernandez? Isaiah Wynn?

I ended up going with Boston College edge defender Harold Landry.

You can view my pick and rationale below. The Lions’ pick starts at the 28:23 mark:
