The New York Jets are on the clock, and everyone is pretty much assuming they’ll be choosing a quarterback. To represent the New York Football Jets, we tagged Darius.slayer23 to play acting general manager.
With the third overall pick in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Jets have taken Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield. Here is Darius.slayer23 with the reasoning for the pick:
While Mayfield does not possess the prototypical size of an NFL quarterback at only 6 feet tall and a touch under 210 pounds, he has all of the necessary tools to become a franchise NFL quarterback. He does not have the gunslinger cannon of some—but plenty to get the job done. He’s one of the most accurate quarterbacks of this class, and he possesses possibly the best passion and competitiveness in the entire class. His teammates rally behind him, and that is an underrated aspect of an NFL prospect. If your teammates will not fight for you, you will not succeed.
He shows good mental ability to read a defense, and his flaws are all coachable. While his ceiling might not be as high as someone like Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen, I still believe he will be the best player, because, as we all know, it takes a lot of great things to reach your ceiling. While Saquon Barkley was a hard person to pass up, we cannot sell the farm like we did (by trading up) for a running back when the quarterback of the future is there for the taking.
What grade do you give this pick?
