It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Well, not really, but it’s something.

Can you all feel it? That freshly cut grass beneath the few inches of snow? That cool wisp of winter air that’s lingering months after it should? That time of year when the NHL and NBA playoffs ramp up for most teams that reside outside of the Metro Detroit area?

That must mean it’s time for offseason workouts!

The Lions players will begin the first phase in workouts on Monday and have their first opportunity to meet and talk with Patricia. There won’t be anything resembling a football practice happening, but players will get oriented in Patricia’s system and begin workout regimens.

And the players are already starting to arrive in Detroit.

Veterans Sam Martin and Ameer Abdullah boarded planes recently to find their way back to Detroit:

With the Pistons and Red Wings’ seasons essentially over and the Tigers picking up where they left off last year, there’s not much to be excited about in Detroit sports at the moment. So anything that is a sign of football to come brings with it an additional boost of hype.

Let the Matt Patricia era officially begin!
