The Baltimore Ravens are on the clock next for our Pride of Detroit Community Mock draft, and they’re looking to rise to relevance once again in the AFC. Though they have only had one losing season since 2007, they’ve missed the playoffs for the past three years and haven’t gotten past the divisional round since their Super Bowl season in 2012.
To help them rise to relevance once again, Go_Beluga_whales has been tapped to play interim general manager. With the 16th pick in the POD Community Mock, the Ravens have selected Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey. here’s Go_Beluga_whales with why he was the choice:
“Crab Cakes and Football.” Having gone to college in this region, I know how important this selection is for Baltimoreans. In order to get into the playoffs again they need to build their O-line, LB’s and all types of pass catchers. I am a firm believer of building up the trenches with the best talent. I desired WR Calvin Ridley, DT Vita Vea or OLB Tremaine Edmunds but they have been selected already. That being said, I decided to select the projected right tackle from Notre Dame, Mike McGlinchey.
McGlinchey is a plug-and-play starter on the right side of the line at the pro level according to many scouts and even his college coaches. This is the best case scenario for the Ravens after how the board has fallen. McGlinchey excels in run blocking and handling bull rushers. His awareness when being stunted and twisted against is also very very good. The Ravens have McGlinchey’s former Notre Dame teammate Ronnie Stanley playing LT. We saw the Tennessee Titans take the first-rounder-at-each-end-of-the-offensive-line approach a couple years back and it has worked wonders for them. I also considered drafting DE Marcus Davenport, LB Leighton Vander Esch and WR Courtland Sutton. As GM for the Ravens, I will now turn my attention to drafting a pass catcher in the coming rounds.
