In just a day’s time, the Detroit Lions will open up rookie minicamp for the 2018 NFL season. It will be the team’s first opportunity to see their new draft picks in action. The Lions will also be hosting several players for a tryout on Friday, including Michigan quarterback John O’Korn.
The fan experience for rookie minicamp isn’t all that exciting. The practices are not available to the public, and what little highlights that will be made available, will be highly edited, if they even exist at all.
That being said, there will likely be at least something for fans to consume this weekend, whether it be interviews, highlights or just reports from the team and media. So today’s Question of the Day is:
Which Lions rookie are you most excited to see?
My answer: Running back Kerryon Johnson. Call me a simpleton, but adding skill players is just more exciting to watch. Johnson is just the fourth running back taken by the Lions in the first three rounds of the draft in the past decade.
The Lions haven’t had a talented running back reach his full potential in the NFL since Barry Sanders, and while the expectations for Johnson are well short of Barry territory, there is still a think sense of excitement in the air that he could bring a successful running game with him. In other words, I am going to eat up every single optimistic report I hear on Johnson, regardless of how premature it is.
Your turn.
