Many NFL players take the time in between OTAs and training camp to relax and spend a little time with their families. It’s important to keep in football shape during this time, but considering it will be the players’ last time in the next six months to take some serious personal time off, many choose to do so.
Recently married Darius Slay isn’t one to rest on his laurels much. After a short honeymoon, Slay is already back to work, despite the fact that he won’t have to report to training camp for another month. And he’s surrounding himself with some of the best cornerbacks in the entire league:
Got some good work in with some of the best out there. @AqibTalib21 @_bigplayslay23 @XavierRhodes29_ @ahkello ... Preciate you @footwork_king1 working us pic.twitter.com/vHdUOG0k2F

Slay, Richard Sherman, Aqib Talib, Xavier Rhodes and Ahkello Witherspoon all on one field at a time. That is a talented set of defensive backs all working together to get better.
They have all come together to attend Rischad Whitfield’s training sessions. According to Whitfield’s website, he’s a personal trainer who is “well known and highly respected as a fitness and nutrition expert.” He’s obviously pretty well respected if he’s managed to host four of the best cornerbacks in the game during an offseason workout.
As for Slay, this just speaks to his commitment to getting better every year. Slay has seen his game improve every season, and it’s clear his first Pro Bowl and All Pro season won’t cause him to get complacent with his game.
Back during minicamp, Slay said his long-term goal is to make the Hall of Fame.
“I just continue to be me and keep growing as a player,” Slay said per the Detroit Free Press. “That’s the ultimate goal as me as a kid growing up.”
Working alongside guys like Sherman and Talib, who could eventually make a case for Canton, is a great way to build your way there. And it looks like his offseason work isn’t quite done yet:
I put my boys Richard Sherman, Aqib Talib, Xavier Rhodes and Darius Slay through some solid work today! We are right back at it tomorrow.
