On Wednesday, we noted that Darius Slay wasn’t taking his month vacation prior to training camp off. Instead, he was training with some of the best cornerbacks in the league, including Richard Sherman, Aqib Talib and Xavier Rhodes. It was a show of intense commitment from Slay, who is coming off his best season to date.
And apparently he’s already turning heads during training. Rischad Whitfield, who runs the offseason training program for the all-start corners, posted this video of Slay, and needless to say, he was impressed with what he saw:
Another one of the highest rated and known Cornerbacks in The NFL is @_bigplayslay23 ! He’s so smooth and fluid with it pic.twitter.com/stiR7gnj8u

But Whitfield wasn’t the only one who came away impressed. Former NFL wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson saw the video, and was blown away:
That is fucking ART https://t.co/h4fRrduwgS

This isn’t the first time Johnson has complimented a Lions player. Last year, he predicted that Kenny Golladay was going to be “special” after visiting training camp. Golladay apparently took the comment well, as he wants to meet up with Johnson at some point this year.
As for Slay, this appears to be the Summer of Slay. He cracked the NFL Top 100 Players list for the first time, ranking as the 49th best player in the league and the fourth best cornerback. Bleacher Report named him the fifth best shutdown cornerback in the league. Oh, and he got married.
Let’s hope his fall is just as good as his summer.
UPDATE: A few others have pitched in about how impressive Slay’s footwork is:
PFF’s Brett Whitefield:
OH MY GOODNESS those feet are purty. https://t.co/H9J7UtOXfA

Stanford DBs coach Duane Akina:
Agree w/ how fluid Slay was w/ footwork and hip drills. What was really impressive was watching his work ethic and talking about the mental side of the game. Hard working and intelligence have been common threads with ALL THE GREAT ONES I've coached. Appreciate @_bigplayslay23 https://t.co/03EcA18T3S

Some guy named Taylor Decker:
I see you been working on your feet @_bigplayslay23 ,you’re going to love my pass sets #goldenset #sweetfeet #bigdaddydecker
