Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. injures leg during practice, says ‘I’m good’

It’s unknown how serious Jones’ injury is, but he did not return to practice.

As the Detroit Lions closed Day 2 of training camp with full team drills, Marvin Jones Jr. appeared to injury himself on one of the first plays of the segment. Going up for a deep ball against cornerback DeShawn Shead, Jones came down with the ball in the end zone, but got tangled up with the corner and starting clutching his left leg.

He stayed down on the field for about a minute, before walking very gingerly to the sideline with a trainer. For the remaining 15 minutes of practice, Jones was next to the trainer, trying to stretch out his leg and alternating between taking a knee and standing up.

Jones didn’t talk to media as he walked off the field after practice, but he did let a couple reporters know that he’s okay:

It’s hard to know just how serious the injury is, and it would be reckless to speculate, so we’ll see if Matt Patricia addresses the situation during Sunday’s pre-camp press conference, or if Jones gives it a go Sunday.

If Jones missed practice—the first open to the general public—the Lions will have to rely on one of their reserves. Perhaps it’s an opportunity for the Teo Redding Hype Train to kick it into next gear or for another player, like Deontez Alexander or Bradley Marquez, to make an impression.
