That was quick.

Well, the mystery of the missing defensive end has been solved. After defensive end Robert Ayers was suspiciously missing from both Tuesday’s practice and locker room session, the Detroit Lions announced that they have released him.

Ayers signed the team to a one-year deal on Monday, and he immediately practiced with the squad later that day. He even seemed quite excited to be part of the team via his social media posts.

Year 10....

Earlier on Tuesday, head coach Matt Patricia said he was excited to see what Ayers had to offer the team.

“Another guy, obviously, has some good experience that we could bring in. Has been pretty productive in the NFL in a couple different places and has some versatility,” Patricia said. “It’ll be a good opportunity for us to look and see how that fits us.”

But Ayers never made it to his second practice. At this point, we don’t know what exactly went wrong in the 24 hours Ayers was with the team, but we’ll keep you updated if we hear anything.
