Lions cuts tracker: Tracking Detroit’s transactions to 53-man roster

Live updates as the Lions work their way down to a 53-man roster.

NFL: Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions left the final preseason game of 2018 with 87 players on their roster. By the time the clock strikes 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, they will have to be down to 53. That makes the next 24+ hours hell for both the players and the coaches. Young men will wait beside their phones waiting for their career’s fate to be decided. Coaches must make tough decisions that could end up costing them their own jobs if they choose unwisely.

It’s a rough situation, and one that probably deserves a little more sympathy than we give it. Some of these players only know football and this weekend could be their last taste of it in their professional careers.

We’ll be here all weekend giving you updates on NFL cuts, who’s in and who’s out for the Detroit Lions’ 53-man roster and 10-man practice squad. Remember, even when the Lions make their final cuts, that’s likely not the end of the roster maneuvering. Because after the cuts comes waiver wire searching and the bottom five players on any roster aren’t safe.
