Sunday open thread: Who are you most eager to see in the Lions’ preseason opener?

The preseason is less than a week away. Who are you eager to see?

The preseason is a sensitive beast. On one hand, fans are all eager to see the newest players on their team and how they may look heading into the regular season. On the other hand, it’s much more important that the team gets out of their exhibition games without any major injuries or setbacks.

So as the Detroit Lions near their preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders, there’s a bit of a push/pull for Friday’s contest. Understandably, fans are probably extremely eager to see a guy like Kerryon Johnson play in a game-like situation, but seeing him get injured would be a gut-punch to start the football year.

So with that in mind, today’s Question of the Day is:

Which Lions player are you most eager to see in the preseason?

My answer: The answer is still probably Johnson for me, simply because I’m so starved for a running game in Detroit, but there are a couple other players I’ll be hoping to see.

I’d like to see Devon Kennard and Jarrad Davis, as I think they could be two of the most integral parts to this team’s defense. However, I don’t expect to see much of either on Friday.

So, instead, my ultimate answer for this question is DeShawn Shead. In training camp, we’ve seen what he can do against the likes of Marvin Jones Jr. and Kenny Golladay. However, those two players aren’t exactly known for their ability to create separation. I want to know if Shead can keep up this play against a different set of receivers.

The Raiders receivers aren’t exactly some of the best in the league, but Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson aren’t too bad, either. Plus, it’s always a challenge to face someone new after lining up opposite the same guys in camp, day after day.

Your turn.
