Lacy was always a longshot to make the Lions’ final roster. Even ceding the fact that Detroit’s top four receivers were pretty much set, Lacy was an unheralded undrafted free agent signing among a few other standouts.
To his credit, Lacy finished the preseason strong, making a nice touchdown grab on a fade from Jake Rudock. But considering he was still playing deep into the fourth quarter, his fate had already been sealed. We’ll see if his sticks around in the practice squad.
This doesn’t mean much for the rest of the wide receiver corps. With Teo Redding already waived, we’re waiting to see if a young player like Brandon Powell sneaks onto the roster as a fourth or fifth receiver. TJ Jones is the one guy who could be on his way out after making the team last year. However, Jones didn’t even play in the finale, suggesting his job is safe.
