The Detroit Lions released their first injury report of the week in the lead-up to their game against the San Francisco 49ers, and a fair amount of key players are on it. Though the Lions didn’t have a full practice today—they only did a walk-through—they did give estimates on participation, as required by the league.
First, the good news: LeGarrette Blount (shoulder) and Matthew Stafford (shin) were full participants during Wednesday’s session. Both missed a little bit of time during Monday’s game against the Jets, but neither injuries were officially reported during the game. Now we know what both are ailing from, but their “full practice” designation suggests they won’t miss this week, barring any setbacks.
Ezekiel Ansah was limited in practice, corroborating Adam Schefter’s report from earlier on Wednesday that Ansah avoided a major injury and the Lions are hopeful he’ll play on Sunday.
The bad news, however, is T.J. Lang, who suffered a back injury late on Monday night and missed only the very last snap of the game, a kneel down. Lang did not practice on Wednesday with the back injury.
Lang has been dealing with a myriad of injuries ever since the Lions snagged him in free agency. Last year, Lang dealt with a back injury—among several others—for a couple weeks, and it caused him to miss Week 6’s game against the Saints. Even this training camp, Lang missed a significant amount of time—and didn’t play in the preseason—due to an undisclosed injury.
On Monday, the Lions used Kenny Wiggins in Lang’s spot for the one snap he missed, but the Lions could also rely on Joe Dahl if Lang can’t give it a go against the 49ers.
