Jake Rudock wasn’t off the Detroit Lions for long. After the Lions waived him on Saturday morning, he former Wolverine quarterback cleared waivers and will be joining the team’s practice squad per Justin Rogers.
This is the second time in three years that Rudock will start the year on the practice squad. In his rookie season, he was unable to beat out Dan Orlovsky in training camp and ended up on the squad. Last year, after the Lions permanently moved on from Orlovsky, Rudock was able to beat out Brad Kaaya in the preseason. But this year, he wasn’t able to best veteran Matt Cassel, who the Lions signed this offseason.
With Rudock back, the Lions can try and see if the third year is a charm with his development. They’ll also get Rudock’s film room study habits, which head coach Matt Patricia specifically complimented last week.
“His study habits are unbelievable,” Patricia said. “He has good questions in the meetings, really does a good job there, of, again, just trying to really learn the offense from that perspective and then also on the flipside of that, learn more about the defense.”
Rudock is the first of 10 practice squad additions leaked.
