Kerryon Johnson did all Detroit Lions a favor by ending the horrible 100-yard drought last week against the Patriots. But the Lions didn’t trade up in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft so that Johnson could do that once. They’re hoping he’s got plenty of those kind of performances up his sleeve for years to come.
At this point in the season, it’s hard to tell how real the Lions’ running game is. Johnson undoubtedly looks good, but the offensive line has been inconsistent through three games. Additionally, the Patriots have one of the worst run defenses in the league in 2018, so it’s important to view Johnson’s performance through that lens.
So what happens this week? How will Johnson’s encore look against the Dallas Cowboys? Today’s Question of the Day is:
How many rushing yards will Kerryon Johnson have vs. Cowboys?
My answer: The Cowboys have allowed just one 100-yard rusher this season, but it took Seahawks running back Chris Carson 32 carries to get there (3.2 YPC). Saquon Barkley only managed 28 while Christian McCaffrey had 50 with Cam Newton adding 58 of his own.
Throw it all together and you have a pretty solid Cowboys run defense. That being said, I’m really starting to believe the Lions have something going on the ground, and as long as the game remains under control, they’re going to try and be as balanced as possible on offense.
So I think Johnson will reach 85 yards on around 20 carries. He won’t quite go back-to-back in 100-yard performances, but he will keep the Lions’ rushing attack respectable.
