If you were holding out hope that Anthony Zettel would wind up back in Detroit as part of the Lions’ practice squad, the Cleveland Browns buried those dreams on Thursday afternoon. A day after the Lions surprisingly waived Zettel, the Browns claimed him off waivers, immediately adding him to their 53-man roster.
The Lions decided to move on from their 2016 sixth-round pick on Wednesday afternoon, cutting him in favor of waiver claim Romeo Okwara, who, in turn, was waived by the New York Giants the day before.
Zettel will now join a somewhat impressive Browns defensive line that features 2017 standout Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah. If Zettel sticks with the roster, the Lions won’t have to see him again until 2021, when the two teams are scheduled to face off again. That is, unless, the two teams face off in a Super Bowl before then... or—perhaps a bit more likely—a future preseason.
