The final match up of the NFL divisional round is a clash of narratives. One on side, the juggernaut New Orleans Saints, led by MVP candidate and all-time passing yards leader Drew Brees. On the other, the defending Super Bowl champions and reigning Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles. On one side Goliath, on the other, an alternate form of David that has a machine gun rather than a slingshot.
New Orleans and Philadelphia met earlier this season at the Superdome and the Eagles suffered a shellacking at the hands of the Saints. That was long ago and the Eagles feel like a different team now. With Nick Foles at the helm, the offense seems to have found a second breath and the defense is matching their energy on the other side of the ball. They say lightning doesn’t strike twice, but the Eagles yet again seem like a team of destiny.
The Saints seem to have destiny on their side as well. Brees, Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara have been unbeatable this season. When they are playing in their ferocious home atmosphere they seem to reach another level. Their star-studded defense has been dominant as well and it does not seem possible that a team can knock them out on their home turf. They have destroyed the best of teams without much trouble this season and it seems almost perfect that their historic season will end with another Vince Lombardi trophy.
Who wins? Can Nick Foles repeat his 2018 magic? Is Drew Brees the greatest quarterback of all time?
