Report: Todd Monken hired as Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator

One of the Lions top targets is off the market.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken has been hired by the Cleveland Browns, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday night. The move comes days after a report that the Detroit Lions planned to interview him for their vacant offensive coordinator role.

Monken served as the Buccaneers offensive coordinator for the past three seasons and will now serve the same role in Cleveland. The move comes just after Steve Sarkisian, another reported target for the Lions offensive coordinator position, reportedly took a job with the Alabama Crimson Tide at the college level.

Detroit reportedly completed an interview with former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett on Friday. Hackett is the only remaining name that has been linked to the Lions job that has not taken a job elsewhere.

The Lions offensive coordinator position was vacated after the team elected not to renew the contract of Jim Bob Cooter at the conclusion of the 2018 season. Cooter had been the Lions offensive coordinator since 2015.
