Wednesday open thread: Which playoff team are you rooting for?

Which team are you bandwagoning the rest of the way?

And then there were four.

It’s officially conference championship week in the NFL, and the top two teams in each conference have been decided. As luck would have it, the top two seeds in the NFC and AFC are still alive. The best teams are playing deep into January, just as it should be.

Of course, the best teams aren’t always the ones you want to root for. Whether it’s because you’re sick of an NFL dynasty or maybe a team has a player you love to hate, we all have our preferences as to who comes out victorious. We want our own personal justice served and the team most deserving to win the championship.

So as the Patriots, Chiefs, Saints and Rams await their fate this weekend, today’s Question of the Day is:

Which of the four remaining playoff teams are you rooting for?

My answer: Let’s do this by process of elimination. As a Lions fan, I love to see the underdogs win, and teams that have not tasted glory to finally raise the Lombardi. The Saints and Patriots have both won recent championships, so they’re out.

The Rams have won a Super Bowl this millenia, but it’s they’ve been really bad for awhile. So this resurgence feels pretty neat, especially how sudden it all happened.

The Chiefs, as I mentioned in Sunday’s open thread, have a resume much like the Lions. They went nearly two decades without playoff win and with barely any postseason appearances. They’ve won a championship, but that was literally 50 years ago.

It also helps that the Chiefs are one of the more fun teams to watch right now and are led by one of the most underappreciated coaches in NFL history. Combine that with my general disdain for Los Angeles sports fans, and this is an easy pick. The Chiefs are my team.

Your turn.
