After last week’s East-West Shrine game, the time for college scouting is upon us, and it’s already time for the next big step in the NFL Draft process. This week, well over a hundred players will head down to Alabama for the Senior Bowl. For some, it’s the opportunity to prove the scouts right, for others, it’s their first opportunity to play against some high-level talent and distinguish themselves from other small-school prospects.
The Detroit Lions will be down there keeping a close eye on it all. With this upcoming offseason being one of the most important in recent memory, the Senior Bowl could be a valuable piece of their offseason scouting.
With so many players there, it’ll be hard to keep track of all the talent, but there are definitely a few prospects the Lions will almost certainly keep a close eye on.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
Who is the one player you’re looking forward to seeing the most?
My answer: Louisiana Tech’s Jaylon Ferguson.
As Alex Reno detailed in his five sleeper edge prospects article, Ferguson holds the D-1 sack record—recording 45 sacks in his college career. But playing at such a small school, it’s hard to decipher whether his film is just pure talent or lack of talent around him. He certainly sticks out, but this week he’ll have a much tougher time getting to the quarterback.
Will he rise to the occasion or will he be exposed against greater talent? With such a deep pass rushing class, Ferguson needs to put on a good performance this week. The Detroit Lions will almost certainly be pursuing a pass rusher in April, so Ferguson’s performance is certainly relevant to Detroit’s needs.
Your turn.
