Lions - Giants injury report: Darius Slay misses Wednesday’s practice

The Lions were without their top DB on Wednesday.

The Detroit Lions started their preparation for the New York Giants on Wednesday. However, they remained without a few key pieces of the team.

Most notably, Darius Slay did not practice on Wednesday after aggrivating his hamstring injury from earlier in the season. Slay left Sunday’s game against the Vikings in the first half and did not return for the remainder of the game. Slay made an appearance at practice on Wednesday, but obviously did not go through any drills.

Additionally, fullback Nick Bawden and defensive tackle Mike Daniels did not practice. Bawden was a late addition to the injury report last week with a foot injury, but he did play seven offensive snaps and 17 special teams snaps last Sunday. Daniels has been out since suffering a Week 3 foot injury. It’s unclear if he’s close to returning.

On the positive sign, defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand was a full participant on Wednesday’s practice, the second consecutive practice he’s been unencumbered by his elbow injury. With the Lions now having a full week of practice—unlike last week—it appears Hand is on track to make his 2019 debut after suffering his injury in training camp.

As for the Giants, the only significant injury appears to be with wide receiver Sterling Shepard, who remains in concussion protocol after missing the last two games. Running back Saquon Barkley was limited, but he doesn’t appear to be in danger of missing this game, as he returned to action last week.

Lions injury report:

FB Nick Bawden (foot) - No practice
DT Mike Daniels (foot) - No practice
CB Darius Slay (hamstring) - No practice
CB Amani Oruwariye (knee) - Limited practice
DT Da’Shawn Hand (elbow) - Full practice
DT Damon Harrison Sr. (groin) - Full practice
QB Matthew Stafford (hip) - Full practice

Giants injury report:

CB Corey Ballentine (concussion) - Did not practice
RB Saquon Barkley (ankle) - Limited practice
WR Sterling Shepard (concussion) - Limited practice
LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle) - Full practice
LB Devante Downs (quad) - Full practice
