Detroit Lions Thursday injury report: Darius Slay, Will Harris have new injuries

Yes, the Detroit Lions’ injury list somehow got longer.

The Detroit Lions injury list just keeps getting longer and longer. Thursday’s official report had two more names on it, and they’re significant ones. Starting cornerback Darius Slay and rookie safety Will Harris are both dealing with new injuries. Slay is listed with a neck issue, while Harris is dealing with a quad.

Harris’ injury is especially impactful, seeing as Detroit has been shorthanded at safety since trading away Quandre Diggs. Starting safety Tracy Walker has missed the past two games with a knee injury, and he remains out of practice this week.

Slay has been battling a few injuries already this season. He’s already missed two games with a hamstring injury and this would be a bad week to miss another. The Dallas Cowboys have one of the more prolific passing attacks in the entire league.

Trending in the right direction

It wasn’t all bad news for the Lions. Several players saw their status upgraded from Wednesday to Thursday.

  • Ty Johnson - Return to practice in a limited fashion after sitting out Wednesday with a concussion suffered during Sunday’s game against the Bears. That leaves the possibility of him passing concussion protocol before Sunday still open.
  • Romeo Okwara - Practiced (limited) after missing Wednesday. Okwara missed last week’s game with a groin injury, but has a chance to play this week.
  • John Atkins - Promoted from limited practice to full. Good news for the Lions, who are missing fellow defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand and have placed Kevin Strong on IR this week.
  • Miles Killebrew - Went from limited to full practice. This suggests he’s nearing the end of concussion protocol and could play this week.

For the Cowboys, right tackle La’el Collins was not at practice on Thursday. But starting guard Zack Martin returned to practice while dealing with back, ankle and elbow issues. Star receiver Amari Cooper also practiced (limited) after sitting on Wednesday.
