Sunday open thread: If you could take one player from the Cowboys, who would it be?

Let’s play some fantasy football.

With the Lions turning into a major disappointment, I’d rather start thinking of hypotheticals than face the reality of where this team is at right now. So as the Lions host the Dallas Cowboys, let’s get straight to the point and escape our reality for today.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

If you could steal a player from the Dallas Cowboys, who would it be?

My answer: DeMarcus Lawrence.

There are a lot of players to choose from because the Cowboys are a very good football team (unfortunately). Their offense ranks among the very best in the league as the Lions’ former backup quarterback, Kellen Moore, is currently calling the shots through his headset. Their defense, though not the most consistent, is littered with talent.

On offense, I considered what the Lions’ rushing attack would look like with Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield and it’s a very tempting thought. Also, Zack Martin on the interior or La’el Collins replacing someone like Rick Wagner would really help get Detroit’s offensive line back on track as they’re both performing well in both phases of the game.

But what the Lions need the most is someone who can rush the passer. Maliek Collins is having a huge year for Dallas as an interior D-lineman and while his sack numbers don’t currently show it, he has the most pressures on the team and currently ranks seventh in the NFL out of all interior pass rushers in that category.

Despite Collins’ big year, I’d still have to go with DeMarcus Lawrence, who is playing like one of the best defensive ends in the league right now and has been for quite some time. Edge rushers are hard to find, and the Lions lack a pass rush attack. Lawrence is both great against the run and when getting after the QB and would be a huge difference maker for the Lions.

Your turn.
