With the first game this year against the Chicago Bears looming, news on Friday was more about the second game the Lions would face them in, on Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving halftime show in Detroit has seen some big names in the past, so it’s always exciting to see who the Lions can get.

For this year, it’s country music act Brothers Osborne. In addition, country music artist Jimmie Allen will be performing the national anthem prior to kickoff.

Brothers Osborne has been nominated for several Grammy awards, while Jimmie Allen’s debut single “Best Shot” topped country music charts for three weeks.

It’s certainly a different direction for Thanksgiving, which in the past has seen pop and hip-hop artists like Big Sean and Jason Derulo, and anthem singers with strong Detroit roots like Aretha Franklin. Last year’s act, Mike Posner, grew up in the metro Detroit area.

The Lions press release characterizes the Brothers Osborne as “a duo that blends equal parts country and rock into one of the freshest, most identifiable sounds to come out of Nashville in recent years.”

If you want to sample their music, here is a link to the music video for “I Don’t Remember Me (Before You)”

See you on Thanksgiving.
