You can blame a multitude of people across the entire organization for the mess that the Detroit Lions put themselves in this season.
Whether you blame Bob Quinn for his drafting and free agent signings, Matt Patricia for the coaching staff he’s built and schemes he’s implemented, or the players for simply not executing, there’s plenty of blame go around.
That brings us to today’s question of the day:
Who do you blame for the Lions’ mess in 2019?
My answer: The players.
I might be a contrarian here, but I don’t think the Lions have a bottom 5-10 NFL roster. I actually like some of the things Matt Patricia has done, including hiring Darrell Bevell.
At the end of the day, the Lions players simply haven’t made enough plays. And they’re one of the most penalized teams in the NFL. And we’re not talking about pre-snap penalties like in the Jim Schwartz era.
The majority of the penalties that have hurt the Lions this year have been defensive and offensive holding calls that either extend or derail drives.
I get that some of you might not agree, but what do you think? Who should take the brunt of the blame for yet another lost season?
