The Detroit Lions will be without five starters on Sunday, maybe more.
On Friday, the team announced that quarterback Matthew Stafford, linebacker Jarrad Davis, defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson and starting offensive linemen Rick Wagner and Joe Dahl will all miss this week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Davis, Robinson, Wagner and Dahl all suffered injuries during last week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings—just as it looked like the team was almost getting healthy again. The Lions will be particularly hurt on the offensive line, where 2018 fifth-round pick Tyrell Crosby is expected to start at right tackle along with rotational guard Kenny Wiggins at left guard.
But the Lions could be down even more than that. Running back Bo Scarbrough, linebacker Christian Jones and defensive tackle John Atkins are all questionable—and all new additions to the injury report this week. Scarbrough was outside at practice on Friday, but he did not go through any drills and was considered a non-participant at practice. If he can’t go, expect the Lions to promote Wes Hills from the practice squad, as Detroit only has two healthy backs currently on their 53-man roster.
