Now that the Detroit Lions have publicly announced their intention to retain Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn into the 2020 season, we have a little bit more clarity as to what changes could and should happen this offseason.
The Lions organization is clearly in Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia’s corner (at least for the time being), but that doesn’t mean everyone else is safe.
Dave Birkett reported the the Detroit Lions will most likely have “significant defensive staff changes” in 2020.
The most obvious candidate is Paul Pasqualoni. The Lions current defensive coordinator has come under a lot of heat this season after leading one of the league’s worst defensive units two years in a row.
So, today’s question of the day is:
What is the biggest change you want to see this offseason?
My answer: Upgrade the coaching staff.
There are a ton of possibilities here. The Lions clearly need an influx of talent, both from the draft and free agency. But in the end, I think they need better coaching.
The Lions need to update their defensive coaching staff to start to get the most out of their players. They need to develop the young talent that they have on the roster, most notably their young linebackers and secondary players.
Let’s hope an influx of new faces on the coaching staff can provide the same lift it did on the offensive side of the ball this past offseason.
Your turn.
