On Saturday, the Detroit Lions promoted running back Kerryon Johnson to the 53-man roster, but that wasn’t the only roster move the team made prior to Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
The Lions also placed linebacker Christian Jones on injured reserve, ending his 2019 season. Jones suffered a shoulder injury against the Minnesota Vikings and missed last week’s game against the Buccaneers. He was already declared out for Sunday’s game, but now he will miss the season finale against the Green Bay Packers, too. Jones is the eighth Lions player to be placed on IR this month.
In Jones’ place, the Lions will likely play rookie linebacker Jahlani Tavai and special teamer Jalen Reeves-Maybin, perhaps with some Steve Longa and Jason Cabinda mixed in.
To take up Jones’ roster spot, the Lions have promoted defensive end Jonathan Wynn from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Wynn has spent most of the season on Detroit’s practice squad and has yet to make an NFL appearance since entering the league last year.
