New York is rebuilding their entire coaching staff after letting go of Todd Bowles at the start of the offseason. They hired new Head Coach, Adam Gase, earlier this Winter after he was let go from the division rival Miami Dolphins.
Cooter started with the Lions in 2014, where he served as the quarterbacks coach. He took over the offensive coordinator role on an interim basis when the team fired Joe Lombardi in 2015. He was eventually given the position full time the following season.
The Jets will be the sixth NFL franchise that Cooter has worked with. In 2013 he served as an offensive assistant for the Denver Broncos under Gase, who was Denver’s offensive coordinator at the time. This will be Cooter’s first time working as an NFL running backs coach.
