2019 NFL Mock Draft: Tennessee Titans select Noah Fant

It’s been rough era for the Tennessee Titans. In the past 10 years, they’ve made the playoffs just once, and although they made it to the divisional round that one trip, they were destroyed by the New England Patriots 35-14.

There is still hope on the horizon, however. The Titans have finished with a (barely) winning record three years in a row and their division doesn’t appear to be terribly difficult.

In our Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, it will be up to interim Titans GM Twon82 to take them to the next level.

With the 19th pick in the POD Community Mock the Titans have selected Iowa tight end Noah Fant. Here’s commenter Twon82 explaining the pick:

“For three consecutive seasons, the Titans have finished their season 9-7. The different thing about this offseason is that quarterback Marcus Mariota likely needs to find a way to generate a breakout season to remain the starter under center. Last year, the Titans focused on their defense with their first two draft picks, as well as in free agency (Malcolm Butler), and ended up finishing the season giving up the second fewest points in the AFC.

And while the Titans managed to grab wide receiver Adam Humphries off the free agency shelf and have two other young WRs in Taywan Taylor and Corey Davis, Mariota could use as much weaponry as possible. Tight end Delanie Walker will be 35 when Week 1 hits and is entering his 14th season coming off a bad ankle injury. Before the injury, Walker has been very reliable throughout his career, never missing more than two games in a season since his rookie year. However, with the years he has under his belt, the team has to be concerned about how much tread is left on those tires. He has two years remaining on his contract and the Titans should consider his eventual replacement if the right opportunity presents itself. While they could certainly stand to add to their pass rush, I believe they can do that in later rounds.

With TE being a more immediate need than WR, Noah Fant makes a lot of sense for the Titans here. He had a great combine and his pass catching ability gives Mariota another young, athletic weapon that can complete the TE position for years to come in Tennessee.
