The Baltimore Ravens are welcoming a new era of football. Gone is the elitist quarterback this league has ever seen, as Baltimore sent Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos. Now is the time for Lamar Jackson to rise and bring a new flavor to Baltimore’s stale offense.
Pride of Detroit commenter Keith A is acting as the Ravens general manager in our Community Mock Draft, and he knows the importance of surrounding a young quarterback with a talented cast of players.
So with the 22nd pick in our POD Community Mock Draft, the Ravens have selected Ole Miss receiver A.J. Brown. Here’s Keith with the explanation for his pick.
“When looking at the Ravens’ weaknesses, it’s pretty clear to me what their biggest need is: wide receiver. Off the top of my head, I’m not even sure who their top wideout is (a quick search tells me it’s Willie Snead. Ouch.), and with a talented, albeit flawed, young quarterback, the Ravens need to get him some help.
My hope was to be able to trade up and grab D.K. Metcalf, especially with him falling to just two picks before, but alas, the rules must be followed. His teammate A.J. Brown, however, is still on the board, and from a technical standpoint he may be a better receiver than Metcalf. Brown was extremely productive in college and served as a sort of security blanket for Ole Miss quarterbacks, hauling in 75 and 85 catches respectively in the past two seasons. Though he is seen as a possession receiver, he has really good measurables and speed and can be used in a variety of different ways.
Brown is a great fit and will give Lamar Jackson an explosive, yet reliable weapon that can play the slot or the outside. This should balance well with their dangerous running game and always tough defense.”
