The Detroit Lions should draft Mississippi State EDGE Montez Sweat

The Mississippi State Edge gives the Lions everything they need.

Alright, alright, this isn’t really a popular pick at the moment because of health concerns coming up in recent days but I picked Mississippi State EDGE Montez Sweat last week and I’m sticking with it.

If the doctors in Detroit give Sweat the green light, he’ll be an asset to the team. Medicals aside, he’s proved he can be a beast on the field. He’s big, strong and athletic. He’s an every down player that has 22 sacks and 29.5 tackles for loss at Mississippi State. That kind of production could really bring this defense to another level. What’s more, Sweat is still growing and has a ton of room to improve and become a really special player.

Sweat on the other side of the line across from Trey Flowers is a scene that belongs in Aaron Rodgers’ nightmares! Having him on an already talented front with Flowers, Damon Harrison and A’Shawn Robinson would make the Lions defensive line a powerhouse. We know that Flowers is talented and adding another EDGE like Sweat would squeeze QB’s all game, making the rest of our defense better.

These two guys would do some major damage together and would be the baddest mother f#%!ers since Riggs and Murtaugh, except they’re younger. Sweat is only 22 years old and would provide some long term stability to a position that’s struggled for a long time. We haven’t had a really great DE since Robert Porcher, it’s time to change that. I’m not saying Sweat will be that good, but he could be, especially under Patricia’s tutelage.

The most interesting thing about this situation is that the Lions are rumored to be considering trading down. If the medical concerns do end up dropping Sweat’s draft position, the Lions could possibly drop down, get Sweat at a great value and add another pick. Dream scenario. You heard it here first.
