With their fourth-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions have traded down with the Atlanta Falcons, moving from 111 to 117 and picking up an extra sixth-round pick in the 2019 draft (186).

With this trade down, the Lions essentially improved their sixth-round pick that they traded away when they moved up to select Will Harris in the third round. That extra sixth-round pick was pick 204. Now they have Pick 186.

At 117 overall, the Detroit Lions have selected Clemson EDGE defender Austin Bryant.

Bryant fits the Lions profile for a edge defender, in that he has extremely long arm that help him set the edge:

Bryant saw four years of significant action as part of the Clemson defensive line rotation. Over 45 games played, Bryant logged 130 tackles, 37.0 tackles for loss and 21.0 sacks, including 8.5 sacks in each of his past two years. In the College Football Playoffs last year, Bryant made a huge impact, posting three tackles for loss, including two sacks in the Cotton Bowl vs. Notre Dame.

He’s likely a candidate to be part of the Lions’ defensive line rotation at the down defensive end position, where his size and length will fit best.

Bryant did not record an RAS score, because he has been limited by torn pectoral muscle he played through in the last month of the season.
