On Friday morning, the Detroit Lions announced what every fan already knew. Free agent running back C.J. Anderson officially signed his contract in Detroit, making him the latest addition to the Lions’ busy offseason:

The news was broken on Monday, and Anderson all but confirmed it throughout the week via his Twitter account:

So why did it take from Monday to Friday for Anderson to sign the deal? His Twitter account offers a very understandable explanation. On Wednesday, Anderson welcomed the birth of his new baby girl, Keilani Ja’Von Anderson.
At this point, Anderson’s contract terms with the Lions are still unknown, other than Adam Schefter’s report that the deal is for just one year.
The Lions now enter the 2019 NFL Draft with a healthy stable of running backs: Kerryon Johnson, C.J. Anderson, Zach Zenner and Theo Riddick. That doesn’t mean Detroit is out of the market for a running back on draft day, but it does push it further down the needs list.
C.J. is ready!
