2019 NFL Mock Draft: New York Giants select Dwayne Haskins

The Giants’ pick could have a big effect on the 2019 Community Mock.

The New York Giants are on the clock for the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, and if you’re a Detroit Lions fan, their pick could have a huge impact on how the board falls. If they go quarterback, a talented player that wasn’t supposed to drop to the Lions could end up being there. If they don’t go quarterback, a passer-needy team could be a potential trade-down candidate for Detroit.

Of course, this is just the first of two first-round picks for the Giants, so this just muddles up what their true intentions may be.

The interim general manager in charge of doing a better job than Dave Gettleman (low bar) is commenter kevster.

With the sixth pick in the 2019 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, kevster has selected quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Take it away, kev:

“The New York Giants are approaching the draft with quite a few major needs. The Giants famously traded away Damon “Snacks” Harrison for what seems like pennies to the best team in the NFC North (based on my own personal predictions for 2019). In the offseason they also traded away their best pass rusher, Olivier Vernon, after what is now being called a “run-in” with new coach Pat Shurmur. Oh, they also traded away a wide receiver who is pretty good too, I guess (Lions vs. Browns Super Bowl 2020?). However, the most pressing need for the Giants might be their quarterback situation for the 2020 season.

Let’s face it, Eli is no spring chicken and his deal is done in 2019. This brings us to the Giants’ selection with the sixth pick: QB Dwayne Haskins (from the absolute worst school in the country). Haskins is a New Jersey native and, as much as I hate to admit it, he’s a pretty darned good quarterback. Now that their offensive line isn’t a complete dumpster fire, they won’t get burned as much by having an immobile QB (sorry Eli). The Giants get Eli’s heir and they have an additional first round pick from the OBJ trade to use on their defense.”
