Tuesday open thread: Who should the Lions take in our community mock draft?

New, comments

The Lions are on the clock. Who would you take?

The Detroit Lions are on the clock in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, and as we speak Kent Lee Platte is running his RAS machine in overdrive trying to find the perfect prospect for the team.

Here’s how the board has played out thus far in our community mock, as selected by our own commenters:

1 Arizona Cardinals - QB Kyler Murray
2 San Francisco 49ers - DE Nick Bosa
3 New York Jets - DE Josh Allen
4 Oakland Raiders - LB Devin White
5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DT Quinnen Williams
6 New York Giants - QB Dwayne Haskins
7 Jacksonville Jaguars - OT Jawaan Taylor

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Who should the Lions take at 8th overall in this mock draft?

My answer: Thankfully, I no longer make the pick in the Community Mock Drafts, because I’ve embarrassed myself enough times in that role.

However, I will throw my hat into the ring anyways. At this point, I’d be eyeing defensive tackle Ed Oliver. With Damon Harrison due for a big pay raise, and A’Shawn Robinson entering the final year of his contract, the Lions could use a young playmaker on the interior of the defensive line who can rush the passer (while also being a nice, cheap contract).

I’ll never understand why Oliver seemed to drop in mock drafts since the season ended, but it looks like his eye-popping Pro Day measurements put him back into the top 10 conversation and possibly even top five.

I’d be tempted by the likes of pass-rushing monster Brian Burns or even T.J. Hockenson here, but I’d be pretty happy if the Lions went Oliver here.

Your turn.
