If you were looking to buy a Detroit Lions jersey for one of the team’s nine 2019 draft picks, now may be the time. On Friday morning, as the team readies for this weekend’s rookie minicamp, the Lions announced the jersey numbers for all nine of their draft picks. Here’s a look:
T.J. Hockenson: 88
Jahlani Tavai: 51
Will Harris: 43
Austin Bryant: 94
Amani Oruwariye: 46
Travis Fulgham: 84
Ty Johnson: 38
Isaac Nauta: 89
PJ Johnson: 92
Some noteworthy numbers here include Hockenson’s 88, which is the same number as Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Charlie Sanders. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill there, Hock.
Additionally, Austin Bryant takes over 94 from Ezekiel Ansah, who will be signing with the Seattle Seahawks shortly. Also, Travis Fulgham breaks the recent trend of receivers and actually got a number in the 80s instead of the 10s. As of right now (not including UDFAs) he is literally the only Lions receiver with a number in the 80s.
If you do decide to get a jersey of a rookie, be aware that numbers change quite often, sometimes even before the season starts. But for now, expect these rookies to be sporting these numbers during rookie minicamp.
