Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn came into the NFL Draft riding high. After cashing in on free agency, nabbing Trey Flower, Jesse James and Justin Coleman amongst other, Quinn was carrying a 90 percent approval rating into draft weekend—a one-year high for the Lions general manager.
However, draft weekend did not go as many fans planned and the critics were loud and angry. It was always going to be a tough sell to draft another tight end in the top 10, and Quinn’s surprising pick of Jahlani Tavai in the second round only seemed to make fans even more angry.
Although later picks—like Amani Oruwariye in the fifth round and Beau Benzschawel as an UDFA signing—seemed to help silence the doubters, the general thought of Detroit’s 2019 draft class was unenthusiastic.
Still, I wanted to wait a few weeks for people to settle on the draft before providing their punch drunk reaction. Before we get into this week’s poll, here’s a look back on Quinn’s approval rating over the three years he’s had as Lions general manager.
