When the Lions released Glover Quin earlier this offseason it opened up a big hole that had been filled for the previous six seasons.

For the first time in a long time the Lions have questions about who will start at free safety. The good news is that they have a few solid options to fill in for Glover Quin.

Second year player Tracy Walker seems to be ready for an expanded role.

Rookie Will Harris is an intriguing talent added in the the rotation.

Offseason free agent addition Andrew Adams and veteran stalwart Tavon Wilson round out the group.

That varied group gives the the Lions a lot of flexibility going into 2019. And it’s one Lions defensive backs coach Brian Stewart looks forward to seeing more of:

“It’s exciting to get all these different pieces,” Stewart said on Tuesday. “I think training camp is going to be real exciting because now we get to see those things with pads on.”

We’re sure to have more in-depth breakdowns of the safety position battle this offseason, but for now I want to see what you all currently think.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

Which Detroit Lions player will replace Glover Quin in 2019?

My answer: Tracy Walker.

It won’t be easy to replace a steady vet like Glover Quin, but all signs point to this. You can track Walker’s progress last season to see how bright his future can be.

He’s going to take his lumps, but I feel pretty confident that he’ll be the Lions starting safety opposite Quandre Diggs on Week 1.

What do you think?
