The Detroit Lions’ top two draft picks are officially under contract. The team announced Thursday afternoon that eighth overall pick T.J. Hockenson and second-round pick Jahlani Tavai have signed their rookie contracts on the eve of rookie minicamp. Earlier, fifth-round pick Amani Oruwariye announced he also signed his rookie deal.

As the graphic above indicates, there are still six draft picks to be inked before Detroit’s 2019 class is all under contract.
Thankfully since the latest CBA agreement, the rookie wage scale has made signing draft picks relatively easy. Holdouts, while not completely gone, remain relatively rare in this era of the NFL. So there is no real cause for concern that only three of the Lions’ nine draft picks are signed going into Friday’s rookie minicamp.
Full contract details aren’t out for any of the three rookies under contract. However, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press has a little blurb about Hockenson’s deal:
As the eighth pick, Hockenson’s contract will be fully guaranteed and include a signing bonus of $12.4m
