We only have a year’s worth of data, but the Detroit Lions have some potential stars coming into their second year.
As a quick reminder, here are the Lions 2018 draft picks:
Round 1, Pick 20 - C Frank Ragnow, Arkansas
Round 2, Pick 11 - RB Kerryon Johnson, Auburn
Round 3, Pick 18 - DB Tracy Walker, Louisiana-Lafayette
Round 4, Pick 14 - DL Da’Shawn Hand, Alabama
Round 5, Pick 16 - OL Tyrell Crosby, Oregon
Round 7, Pick 19 - FB Nick Bawden, San Diego State
Of those six picks, the first four are almost surefire starters this season and Tyrell Crosby has an opportunity to possibly earn a spot in training camp.
So, that brings me to today’s question:
Which second-year player are you most excited to watch in 2019?
My answer: Kerryon Johnson. This is actually a pretty tough decision. I think Frank Ragnow will be a high-quality player this year for the Lions and Da’Shawn Hand was one of the top rookie defensive linemen last season despite being picked in the fourth round.
Even Tracy Walker has a chance to make some noise as he tries to take over for Glover Quin in 2019.
But in the end, I picked Johnson because of the excitement he can bring to the offense. Matt Patricia and his new offensive coaching staff have made it clear they want to run the ball. If Johnson stays healthy, he has a chance to make a great impact for the Lions in 2019.
Your turn.
