Cardinals Preseason notes, are the Lions facing an improved team in the Opener?

Watching the Cardinals preseason game tonight. Kyle Murray was out there on the first series, so we a get a bit of a look of what we will be getting in game 1.

Some thoughts, from the first Quarter. Cards played starters on offense and defense most of the first quarter.

Cardinals Offense

Murray is fast

Always playing from shotgun

They will run some options, and Murray will keep the ball and run

Lots of QB movement, bootlegs

Lots of Rookie QB mistakes, delay of game, false starts (refs don't like his hand clap), overthrows

Tons of pick plays

David Johnson looks like he is still learning the new offense, slow to hit holes

Murray has a pretty deep ball, and will take deep shots

Cardinals Defense

Gave up a quick TD to Oakland starters, and should have given up another to Glennon, but Glennon missed. Glennon had a 53 yrd td pass to redeem himself.

They can't cover running backs

They have some big name pass rushers, but they didn't do anything

Lots of coverage mistakes

Can be run on, especially inside

Thoughts

Cardinals are playing Murray a lot in preseason, they care about getting him ready. He has a long ways to go. The Cardinals offense was stuck in neutral, but it was mostly caused by the huge # of penalties. Cardinals defense stopped nothing.

The cards might not be the worst team in the NFL this season, but they looked bottom 10. Their fans have to be scared after this game (the writers over Revenge of the Bird are).

The Cardinals offense might get things figured out by week 1, but they look like a team the Lions should beat.
