The Detroit Lions welcomed a few familiar faces back to practice on Monday as they prepare for their preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday. Backup quarterback Tom Savage, former second-round pick Teez Tabor and reserve offensive linemen Tyrell Crosby were among several Lions who returned to practice after missing significant time due to injuries.

For Savage, it’s a sign that he is close to clearing his way through concussion protocol. If his symptoms stay at bay, there’s a chance he could play in the preseason finale and make a solid case as the team’s primary backup when Detroit is forced to make a decision on cut day (Saturday).

Tabor’s return comes just in the nick of time for the young cornerback. He showed some serious improvement early in training camp, but his injury has prevented him from playing in the preseason and any joint practices. If he can get in playing shape by Thursday, he’ll have an opportunity to prove he’s worth a roster spot as a backup corner and could even push for playing time in 2019.

Finally, there’s Tyrell Crosby. Crosby was the team’s primary backup at tackle, and his injury forced Kenny Wiggins to move to the outside. But with Frank Ragnow suffering an minor ankle sprain against the Bills last week, Wiggins has been forced back inside. That’s fortuitous timing for Crosby’s return, who will now be the presumed backup tackle again at both outside positions.

Also returning to practice were defensive linemen John Atkins and Eric Lee, who both missed Friday’s preseason game against the Bills. Both players are considered on the roster bubble and will need a final push this week to lock in a spot.

Elsewhere, according to the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett, tight end Jesse James and cornerback Rashaan Melvin were not at practice. Both are potential starters but didn’t appear to be seriously injured during Thursday’s game, in which both played 16 snaps.

Finally, as expected, Frank Ragnow and Jarrad Davis did not practice after suffering injuries on Friday. They joined Da’Shawn Hand, Austin Bryant and Tommylee Lewis as non-participants.
