Sunday was a day to forget for Detroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker. The former first-round pick struggled all day against the Arizona Cardinals, allowing a couple sacks and committing four penalties on the day.
Now Decker is on the Lions’ injury report for Week 2. According to the Detroit Lions, Decker is dealing with a back injury and was limited during Wednesday’s team practice.
It’s a tough situation for Decker, who will have to face off against two of the league’s best pass rushers in Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram III. It’s an unfortunate draw for someone who just had to go against the likes of Terrell Suggs and Chandler Jones, but Decker needs to get used to it, because he’s in a division with stellar pass rushers.
If Decker is too injured to go on Sunday, Detroit would have to rely on a set of offensive tackle options that aren’t too promising. The Lions would have some options—like moving Kenny Wiggins or Joe Dahl outside or simply using reserve tackle Tyrell Crosby on the left side—but none of them provided a lot of optimism based on their play in August.
In addition to Decker, Jarrad Davis (ankle), Da’Shawn Hand (elbow) and Rashaan Melvin (knee) were all also limited on Thursday. But as we reported earlier on Wednesday, Davis made clear progress and was closer to full participation than last week.
