Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay is down in Orlando, with teammate Kenny Golladay, for his third straight Pro Bowl. In true Slay fashion, it appears he’s having himself a hell of a time with his fellow NFL stars.
But Slay also took the opportunity to honor another teammate who isn’t down there with him. As posted on Slay’s social media, he brought a pair of cleats to Orlando. The left cleat is a depiction of his own family. The right cleat is a portrait of Marvin Jones Jr.’s family with the words “Rest in peace Marlito” on it.
It’s bigger than football!!!! Love ya bra @MarvinJonesJr rest easy Marlito Jones!!!! pic.twitter.com/6JcHNFq5AM

(These cleats were designed by Marlon Tabb. You can check out his Instagram page here.)
The Jones family tragically lost their infant son Marlo Jones back in December. Marlo, the Jones’ fifth child, was born just this past summer. The team honored the Jones family with a moment of silence before their season finale. Lions running back Kerryon Johnson also offered a thoughtful honor by using Jones’ celebration following a touchdown in that game.
Slay’s latest tribute to the Jones family was clearly valued by his teammate.
“Much appreciation to my brother @bigplayslay23 for showing love to my family at the Pro Bowl. Love ya brotha,” Jones wrote in his own Instagram post on Thursday.
Football is family.
