Detroit Lions Week 4 injury report: 6 Saints starters OUT including Michael Thomas

From an injury perspective, the Detroit Lions will have a clear advantage in Week 4. Detroit final injury list of the week only features __ players. The New Orleans Saints, on the other hand, could be missing at least five starters, maybe more.

The Lions will almost certainly have cornerback Desmond Trufant back from a hamstring injury that caused him to miss the past two games.

“I’m solid. I’m good,” Trufant told media after Friday’s practice.

Trufant was limited in Friday’s practice, as was nickel corner Darryl Roberts, who popped up on the injury report mid-week. It’s unclear if Roberts will be ready to play, but Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press said he “looked fine” during practice.

Roberts and Trufant join defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand and tight end Hunter Bryant among those listed as questionable who were limited in practice.

However, there was one significant addition to the injury report. Linebacker Christian Jones did not practice on Friday due to a knee injury and is also listed as questionable.

For the Saints, six starters did not participate in Friday’s practice and WILL NOT play vs. the Lions: wide receiver Michael Thomas, guard Andrus Peat, tight end Jared Cook, both starting cornerbacks Janoris Jenkins and Marshon Lattimore and defensive end Marcus Davenport.

Thomas practiced in a limited capacity all week, But NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggested that New Orleans may be extra precautious with Thomas in order to prevent a long-term injury.

“The fact that he is trending well does not necessarily mean he’s gonna play on Sunday,” Rapoport said Friday morning. “The Saints have been cautious. They know it’s a long season. Obviously they’d like a win but they’re gonna make sure that there is not risk of reinjury before they put him back on the field”
